Beyond the Mind's Control Chapter 4
“Oh please. You’re never busy on the weekends unless you were with me!” Jaejoong said in his normal voice.
Jaejoong’s head jerked toward the teacher at the sound of his name.
“Is there something you need to share with the rest of the class?”
“I was just asking Jaejoong for the assignment sir,” Yunho replied with his eyes fixed on the desk.
“Ask his after class,” the teacher snapped.
Yunho dipped his head respectfully and refused to make eye contact with Jaejoong for the rest of class.
At the bell, Yunho sprang up and tried to get to the door as fast as his feet would allow him to move, but Jaejoong caught his arm before he could disappear into the mob of students.
“You’re going to talk to me Yunho,” Jaejoong said with a glare.
“I’m really not in the mood Jaejoong-ah…” Yunho muttered.
His response only made Jaejoong tighten his grip.
“I don’t care if you’re in the mood or not. I need to tell you something.”
Yunho gently removed Jaejoong’s hand and closed his eyes. “Don’t push me,” he said. “Now is really not the time for me to be talking to anyone.” He tried to make his voice as serene as possible, but it trembled slightly at the end of each word.
Jaejoong gave Yunho his puppy eyes and stood on his toes to get closer to Yunho’s face. “Then when are you going to talk to me?” he asked, slightly pouting his lip.
Yunho opened his eyes and was instantly locked in Jaejoong’s gaze. Those sparkling eyes… those succulent lips… they were so irresistible…
His Other pushed a thought into his mind, which Yunho quickly shook away. He gently pushed Jaejoong farther from him and took a step backwards, putting the beauty well out of his reach. “Some other time. Just not now…”
Jaejoong sighed deeply. “Fine…” he finally said in surrender. “Later then?”
“Maybe,” Yunho answered after a moment. He wasn’t certain he could keep composure for much more of the day. His exhaustion had returned and he was very vulnerable for his Other to take over at any moment. Yunho just couldn’t risk that with Jaejoong; not with the twisted images his Other was making him think of.
Jaejoong’s expression shifted from defeat to annoyance. “If you weren’t so paranoid maybe I could actually get something through to you!”
“Huh?” Yunho’s eyes widened a little at Jaejoong’s sudden outburst. They were more frequent with him every day since his attack, but Yunho still hadn’t gotten used to the spontaneous anger.
“You always think that everywhere you go you’re going to bring gloom and doom to anything you touch! Well I have news for you Yunho: you’re still a Goddamn person!” Jaejoong said as he threw his arms in the air to emphasize his words.
“Don’t say anything. Just keep your mouth shut and walk away. We don’t need to cause a scene here…” Yunho thought. “Don’t say anything…” But even as he thought those words, he could feel his lips forcing something completely different out of his mouth. “Well excuse me for trying to protect you!! I bust my ass trying not to hurt you every freaking day but you have to come in and screw me up every time!! Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to even look at you sometimes??” he yelled.
Jaejoong’s expression shifted again to one that struck pain into every inch of Yunho’s heart. His eyes changed to a dull red and tears streamed down his cheeks. He took a few shaky breaths before turning and running away.
Yunho was dumbstruck at his own words and tone. He had never yelled at Jaejoong before. Never.
Right away, Yunho could feel the hate radiating from the crowd of students that had surrounded him and Jaejoong. Jaejoong was loved by the entire school and he had just made the boy cry in front of all of them. Guilt piled up in the pit of his stomach and Yunho could take it no longer. He had to find Jaejoong and say something, anything to make it go away.
And to make his situation worse, he knew exactly whose comforting arms Jaejoong had run to. Just the thought of Yoochun caressing Jaejoong’s perfect body made him crawl with envy. Yoochun was a safe place for Jaejoong to run; the other boy knew everything there was to know about Jaejoong and he would never hurt him in any way like Yunho could… and they all knew it.
Are you just going to let Jaejoong go to him? Yunho’s other hissed in his mind.
“No, but I wouldn’t know how to stop him,” Yunho thought in reply.
I can think of plenty of ways…
“Ways that I won’t use.”
We could shove Junsu into the situation as a distraction…
Yunho shook his head. “I wouldn’t go so low as to involve Yoochun’s boyfriend. That’s just not right.”
Who cares if it’s right or not? It would distract Yoochun enough to ignore Jaejoong…
Do you care for Junsu now?
“Hell no! I just don’t want to involve him!”
Of course not…
“I’m not into him like pretty boy is,” Yunho thought sternly, though his words turned a slight grin on his lips. Calling Yoochun pretty boy used to be a joke between him and Yoochun when they were friends, but was now only a bitter insult Yunho had picked up from his Other. The name somehow gave him a sense of self satisfaction, as if he were slamming that handsome face of Yoochun's in the dirt.
Then find him… his Other hissed.
“I’m not going to involve Junsu. I don’t care what you say,” Yunho said, putting up a futile resistance.
But he’s so vulnerable… You and I both know he couldn’t possibly defend himself from us… And Yoochun would come running for him every time… It would be so easy…
Yunho heard the cruel, static-like laughter in the back of his mind. You act like I’m giving you a choice…
“I won’t do it.”
Then I will…
The discussion ended that very second. Yunho felt his thoughts disappear and his vision beginning to fade.
“You can’t…” he thought weakly. He couldn't resist; he was far too tired. Darkness began to consume him, slowing everything down to a crawl. “Don’t hurt him… Please don’t hurt him…”
Yunho was still aware of everything when he felt his feet carry him out of the hallway, past the glaring students. He thought of nothing and his vision was slightly blurred, but his movements were graceful and precise. His Other was in control, so why was he still conscious?
He saw his arms stretch out in front of him and shove the hall doors open, letting the brilliant sunlight illuminate his tanned face. “What are you doing?” he thought.
The hiss that replied made his own thought seem like a mouse’s squeak compared to the screech of an eagle in his mind. I decided I wanted you to see what I do with Junsu. This would be no fun otherwise.
“I don’t want to see it,” Yunho thought.
Which is exactly why I’m making you see it…
Yunho desperately fought to gain control, but he was powerless. For some reason, he felt that he needed to protect Junsu almost as much as he needed to protect Jaejoong and every part of him was fighting against the movement of his legs heading toward the cafeteria… except the part belonging to his Other.
“At least tell me what you’re going to do to him,” Yunho demanded.
You’ll see when I get to him…
“There’s no way I can stop you whether you tell me or not.”
I know that. It’s just more fun to make you suffer with anxiety… his Other thought, followed by a cruel laugh escaping from his mouth.
Yunho’s legs stepped through the propped open cafeteria doors and his eyes scanned the crowds of juniors for Junsu’s familiar face. Now where is he…? his Other mumbled out loud.
Almost as soon as he had asked, his eyes locked on a cutesy boy with his fingers wound tightly with Yoochun’s. Bingo.
He approached the table filled with fan girls surrounding Junsu and Yoochun and his lips turned up into a fake smile. “Hey,” his Other said casually. But he used Yunho’s voice instead of the demonic hiss he usually did.
Yoochun and Junsu smiled at the newcomer to their table. Yoochun’s smile was beautiful while Junsu’s sang with the beauty of innocence; the exact kind of innocence he preyed on.
“What’s up?” Yoochun asked.
Yunho felt his shoulders lift themselves slightly. “Nothing really,” he replied. “I just wanted to talk to Junsu for a minute.”
Yunho immediately felt Yoochun tense. “Talk about what?” Yoochun asked.
Perfect timing… his Other thought. Jaejoong had just walked through the cafeteria doors and was searching for Yoochun.
“Just about one of our assignments in trig,” Yunho’s other lied. Of course, his Other was going for the one subject where Yoochun and Junsu were separated.
“Alright then, ask him,” Yoochun said sternly. His smile was long gone and was replaced by a thin line and watchful eyes.
“I left my book at home, so can we use yours?” Yunho’s Other asked, turning his head to Junsu.
“I left it in my locker,” Junsu replied. “I can go get it if you want.”
Yunho’s lips curved into a sly grin; everything was going how his Other wanted it.
“I’ll go with you,” Yoochun said, rising to his feet. He tightened his grip on Junsu’s hand and continued to glare at Yunho.
“Yoochun knows what you’re trying to do,” Yunho thought with an inward smile. “He won’t let you get near Junsu alone.”
That’s true, but he won’t have much choice… he shifted Yunho’s gaze to Jaejoong standing behind the fan girls with his eyes focused on the floor.
“Can I talk to you for a minute Yoochun… alone?” Jaejoong practically whispered.
Yoochun turned to Jaejoong with his mouth slightly open to protest but as soon as he saw Jaejoong’s face, his expression became sympathetic. “Yeah, sure.”
Junsu stood up and quickly placed a kiss on Yoochun’s cheek. “I’ll be right back,” he said. Junsu pushed his way through the crowd of fan girls before Yoochun could object with Yunho close behind.
The boys walked in silence through the empty halls to Junsu’s locker, Yunho skittering through plans the entire way. “So what was it that you didn’t understand? I thought it was pretty easy to tell you the truth…” Junsu said as he turned the dial on his locker.
Yunho’s hand reached for the switchblade knife he always kept in his pocket and his face was covered by the open locker door. “I believe it was a science question actually,” he said. His eyes narrowed and the evil grin played on his lips.
“I get my subjects confused sometimes.” The second voice was barely audible mixed with Yunho’s normal voice but the burning sensation in Yunho’s throat was becoming unbearable. His Other was losing composure to the excitement.
“I don’t think we had to do anything for science this week,” Junsu said with an innocent tilt of his head.
“Oh? I thought you would remember. There was one question in particular that I didn’t know the answer to. I believe it was ‘how long does it take for a healthy sixteen year old to bleed to death after having his throat cut.” His Other’s voice had finally broken through.
Junsu closed his locker. “How long for wha-?” But Yunho’s blade was at Junsu’s throat before he could finish his sentence.
Yunho’s forearm slammed into Junsu’s chest, forcing him into the lockers. He held it there and put enough pressure on it to keep Junsu from moving. Not that he needed it; Junsu was frozen with terror anyway. His eyes looked as if they would fall from his face if he opened them any wider and he drew strained, shallow breaths. “Wh-what are you d-doing?” he managed to stutter. Yunho felt Junsu’s knees give out, leaving his arm as the only thing to hold Junsu up.
“Scream for him,” Yunho hissed. “Scream for him like your life depended on it. After all, it does.” Yunho pushed the blade into the soft flesh on Junsu’s neck and a small trickle of blood ran down to Junsu’s scrunched up shirt.
A yelp was all Junsu could muster. He tightly closed his eyes and awaited his fate.
“SCREAM FOR HIM!!” Yunho shrieked, pushing the blade farther into Junsu’s throat. He put more pressure on Junsu’s chest and leaned his face so close to Junsu’s their noses were almost touching. “You’re wasting my time Junsu! I didn’t plan to kill you but my patience is wearing thin. Believe me; I will kill you if you don’t do what I ask.”
Junsu clenched his teeth and tears fell from the corner of his eyes, but he made no sound.
“If you’re trying to protect him, don’t bother. The only thing you’ll be doing by disobeying me is endangering your self.” Yunho put his lips to Junsu’s ear. “Now scream,” he hissed.
Junsu finally broke. Yoochun’s name filled the hall and rang in Yunho’s ears.
Almost simultaneously, Yunho slid the blade through Junsu’s throat and let him fall to the ground with a soft thud. Yunho soaked up the sight of Junsu’s blood on his knife. This will make Yoochun come running for sure… his Other thought with a laugh. He ran his tongue across the blade and let the irony taste linger in his mouth before returning it to his pocket. Then he stepped over Junsu’s gasping body and exited the hall without a second glance.
